There are mad reasons we started L&D. I cant go into all the reasons, fore some are a bit personal, but to sum it up, i'll put it this way: Its New York City, its 2003, were young, black, talented, poor, full of ambition, stubborn, frustrated with school, frustrated with work, frustrated with hustling, frustrated with knowing that the only cure for these types of frustration is finance. This prompted us to examine ourselves and make a serious push towards our goals. Now around 2003, the marketplace was much different. As for NYC, there was only Union NYC, Alife, Stackhouse, and maybe Prohibit. Union was where we copped our shit for the most part, so when it came time to shop the line, they were the first to see it. Respect to Chris Gibbs and Marianne for picking it up, because at that time jerseys were the craze, so the first L&D was actually hand painted Stall & Dean basketball jerseys. |
Since the jerseys were about $100 to begin with, we had to charge Union like $160, and they sold it for a lil less than $300. That was kinda risky, but it worked. They sold out in a weekend, so they ordered some more. By the third time, we couldn't get Stall & Dean to ship fast enough and the jersey craze was falling off, so we knew we had to legitimize L&D fast. This led us to start designing shirts. I cant go into the details exactly because its too long of a story and the book about it all has begun stage development, so were looking at a possible mid- 08 release date (true story!) Nevertheless, we have been constantly challenged, so we have a vast competitive spirit. Whether it be art, basketball or design, we aim to succeed or at the very least, expose the weakness in our opposition. At the time, every line was focused on military, camo, Slick Rick & Biz Markie.lol, so we decided to focus on our era...the 90's. |
